What's New

Updates and improvements to MappedSongs.

March 2026

Big infrastructure and quality improvements

242 million places of interest

We upgraded our location database to include every café, park, museum, temple, stadium, and shop on the planet. Music recommendations are now based on richer, more detailed surroundings — so clicking near a jazz club in New Orleans really does sound different from a temple in Kyoto.

More diverse music

Clicking around the same city used to give you the same song or artist over and over. Now the app tracks what you've recently heard and actively avoids repeating artists, songs, and even overplayed genres. 15 clicks around Portland? 15 different artists.

Day and night on the map

The map now shows a real-time day/night overlay so you can see which parts of the world are in daylight before you click. Night locations get moodier, more atmospheric music.

Faster and more reliable

Location lookups are now 10-50x faster than before. The site also handles many more simultaneous users without slowing down — so share it with friends.

Foundation features

Route mode

Plan a driving or walking route and hear how the music changes along the way. The vibe shifts as you pass through different neighborhoods.

Shareable vibes

Found a perfect song for a location? Share it with a link that shows the place, the vibe, and auto-plays the song — with rich previews on social media.

Vibe mixer

Adjust sliders to control how much the music is influenced by nearby places, the region's culture, or the current weather.

Weather and season awareness

Same place, different weather, different music. A rainy evening at the park sounds different from a sunny morning. The app also knows the local season and time of day.

Skip tracking

Songs you skip get deprioritized. Over time, the app learns what works and what doesn't for each type of location.
